What is the web cookie expiry date?
Web cookies last until they expire, which can range from minutes to years. The expiration date is usually set by the website or domain that implements the cookies. There are two types of cookies based on their expiry:
- Session cookies. These cookies are temporary and last only until the user exits the browser and finishes the session.
- Persistent cookies. Even when the user closes the browser, these cookies are stored on the device and will continue to be valid because they’re used to remember user preferences.
While it’s not obligatory, a common practice is to renew cookie consent at least every 6 to 12 months. Additionally, it’s worth noting that users can disable third-party cookies on any browser, including Safari or Chrome, or clear them at any time.
